Summary
Emotional and Physical Affairs have unfortunately become all too common.  They also don't just happen like in the movies, but things like lack of communication, needs not being met, lack of intimacy, mental health disorders like anxiety, build up of resentment, and lack of emotional connection are just a few of the causes and symptoms of relational problems.  In remarriage and blended family situations these are usually magnified as a result of previous unhealthy relationships.
Today's Goodies
  • Relationships are like gardens.  There is a lot of work from seeding, preparing the soil, planting, watering, sun, nutrients, and stable temperatures that drive health or unhealth of the produce.  The same can be said for blended families and remarrieds.
  • There are lots of causes and symptoms of unhealthy relationships that can lead to an affair
  • "The 5 Why's" which is commonly used in business can help get to the root of the problem.
  • To prevent affairs, do the "10-1-3."  Ten (10) minutes a day, One (1) hour a week, and THree (3) days to spend specifically on the state of the marriage.
  • In the aftermath of an affair, trust and committment must be restored.  It is a process that cannot be short circuited.  It is difficult but not impossible to recover.  Expect 12-18 months, but it is worth it in the end.
  • Phillipians 4:4-9 talks about thinking on things that are good and pure.  This is imperative to prevent the mind from moving toward giving in to the enticement that an affair can present.
